John Hughes has worked in education for over 24 years. Prior to his current role as Director of the Southeast Education Service Center (SESC), he served as an elementary teacher for 14 years and a school principal for nearly 10 years. He also worked on many district and state-level education committees, including leading the SESC PPN for many years. As the director, he is responsible for providing services and support to Carbon, Emery, Grand, and San Juan School districts, as well as Moab Charter and Pinnacle Canyon Academy. The Southeast Education Service Center provides IT support, Tech integration, Media Services, Early Learning Coaching, Consortium Purchasing, and other services as requested by the SESC board of directors. Additionally, John's responsibilities extend to being a representative for the SESC region in district and charter meetings and working collaboratively with the Utah State Board of Education, the Utah Legislature, the Utah Rural Schools Association, the other Regional Educational Service Centers, and other groups and committees as assigned by the board of directors to assess needs and provide support. Supporting teachers, students, and school leaders is our top priority!

John received his Associate of Science Degree from the College of Eastern Utah (now USU-E), his Bachelor of Science from Southern Utah University, and his Master of Educational Leadership from the University of Utah. He is a member of the Utah School Superintendents Association and continues to be actively engaged in various committees and programs on the state and local levels. He is constantly seeking to increase his understanding and skillset in the world of education.
